I think I'm allergic to home. So much so that the moment I'm back in Singpaore, I'm feeling sick. My back aches, I feel old and I can feel a fever building. I hope this doesn't drag till Friday cause being sick on the first day of work sucks...
It's been ages since I visited Malaysia. I used to go in every three months and stuff but now, we're all busy doing our own stuff and we only get the chance to travel once a year so it's always been somewhere far. Malaysia has not been on our holiday list for a very VERY long time so since this year I can't see myself going for an end of the year holiday, we decided to go for a short trip before I start work at Visuals... Very last minute, very rushed and a very short trip but it was interesting.
Destination: Malacca
Transportation: Coach
Departure Time: 8.00 AM
So we had to drag ourselves out of bed at 6.00 AM and that was the start of a very long bus ride into the hearts? of Malaysia. This time, my mum managed to drag my cousin and grandma along so it's fun in a way I guess. Malacca is... A really laid-back city, not as fast moving as KL or JB but it's nice to go back to the kampong kind of lifestyle where the houses are no more than 2 stories high, zinc-roofed, chickens running around and at one point, there were even cows. Really reminded me of my grandmother's kampong. My dad's Malaysian and it's been AGES since we went back to his kampong or even visited my grandmother or that matter so yeah.
Our nice but leaky resortThe resort (I won't call it a hotel cause its not that classy as that of a hotel) was.. Leaky. No I'm serious. Our bathroom had a leaky ceiling so my mum requested for a room change and turns out, everywhere in that resort leaks. As long as there's an air-con vent, it leaks. I have no idea why cause it certainly didn't seem that old to me. Food wise, it was edible, not fantastic. I can safely say that I prefer the parsar malam food to the resort's food. Cheaper and yummier so definately better. =] Had some really interesting food like chicken rice balls. (I'm not kidding! The chicken rice there came in rice balls! Like how cool is that man?) And the lost and NEVER found A&W.
Chicken rice balls
Although it was a short 4 days and it wasn't the best holiday ever, it was a nice break I guess. Time spent with family is always nice. Didn't exactly go trigger happy either cause Malacca is well... Malacca.
Oh and guess what? When I was there, I was seriously thinking if I could live with this kind of lifestyle. Laidback, simple lifestyle, kampong style and you know what? I think I could! Not forever and ever but I actually learnt to appreciate the old tiled floors and the simplicity of it all and it was kinda nice. I don't know how to say it lah but like you know how some people feel bored and think that it is like a total no way for them? I actually thought it pretty cool... Ah what am I saying? It's just nice to get away from all the fast-paced action and whatnot and slow down abit to take in what's almost gone in Singapore....
